We have now made Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels for Math, Science, ELA, and Social Studies available for tagging on Formative for all users. We drew them from the definitions that Webb outlined here
and you can add them directly to your standards preferences.
If you’ve never used them before, they are a great tool for building learning activities and considering how deeply you are asking students to engage in learning. And by tagging them to questions, you can now not only see how students are performing on standards (on the tracker), but get a new window into how they are performing when they are asked think more complexly. I’ve found that it’s widely encouraged to engage students across the different levels so you should feel comfortable tagging any of them.
Once again, we’d really appreciate your help in spreading the word on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere! Here’s some text you can use and as always, you can feel free to tweak it or use your own:
“The Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels are now available on @goformative! You can tag them to Q’s and track how your students are performing when you ask them to engage in different levels of thinking. Learn more about DOK here: http://bit.ly/2OMAmgE #DOK #formativechat”
“If you are tracking student growth this year, make sure to check out @goformative ! You can now not only track student growth on standards, but also Depth of Knowledge Levels and see how they perform when they are asked to engage in different levels of thinking. #DOK #formativechat”
And as always, we’d love to hear your feedback on this and if there’s anyway we can improve how the the Depth of Knowledge Levels are setup for tagging.
